    When You are Face to Face with Identity Theft & Fraud...

    How to respond when you're the victim.

    Identity Theft and Fraud are an inevitable part of today's life. 

    ECU wants our members to have the resources needed to handle identity theft and fraud thoroughly and effectively. 

    When your personal information has been compromised, it's important to act fast.  

    Utilize the following FREE & helpful resources:


    1. Contact your financial institution(s) associated with the fraud immediately. 

    • If you need to contact ECU, you may call 1-800-999-2328 or visit a branch location.  Card Services are available 24/7 to help you with needs related to your debit and credit card accounts. 
    • Update your card and/or account numbers.  Set new passwords and PINs for the primary accounts involved. 


    2. Develop a personal response plan. 

    • Step by step instructions are provided to you via this free service from the Federal Trade Commission.  It's important to complete the entire process to achieve the best possible outcome. 
    • This resource will ask you specific questions about your situation.  You can create an account and will receive your very own, personal response plan!  



    3. Check your credit report for inaccuracies and/or suspicious activity. 

    • ECU offers many great resources to help you answer questions concerning credit reports.  Learn more about Credit Reports & Scores
    • There is only one resource authorized by the Federal Government and supported by the three major credit bureaus as a resource to pull your free credit report.  You can access this from the link below. 


    • Verify all of your information is correct.
    • Dispute incorrect information.
    • Place a fraud alert if necessary. 


    4. Follow Up & Follow Through

    • Use mobile banking and alert options where available.

    • Keep good records.

    • Check your credit reports regularly.

    • Complete your personal recovery plan.
